Friday Update: “Ant-Man” Solid yet Unspectacular, “Trainwreck” Anything But

Marvel is reporting that Ant-Man took in $6.4M from Thursday night grosses. If we compare other Marvel films, Avengers Age of Ultron made up a whopping 14% of its weekend from Thursday grosses, and Guardians of the Galaxy made 11%. If it plays like Guardians, it will end up with around $58M for the weekend. However, if it plays like Age of Ultron (less likely) it will top out at around $45.5M. Obviously there wasn’t nearly as much demand for this as there was for Age of Ultron, and his is definitely a solid start.

Trainwreck took in a fairly strong $1.8M from Thursday night. That’s noticeably above the $1.5M start for Spy, meaning that this has a fairly good shot at topping $30M. It was produced for a fairly standard $35M, meaning that it will likely have a strong domestic shot at $100M.

Updated Predictions

1. Ant-Man – $56M

2. Trainwreck – $31M
